How long to boil crab legs
A few people in a forum were asking me the other day how long to boil crab legs . As with most types of meat whether its poultry or fish , cooking time depends on size. For king crab legs bring a pot of water to the boil and then cook them for 8 to 10 minutes if the legs are already thawed. (Thaw overnight for 24hrs in the refridgerator). If the crab legs are really thin , 6 to 8 minutes will do the job just fine.
When asked how long to boil crab legs from frozen , (which i do not recommend as the meat will be tougher) , then you'll need to boil them for around 12 to 16 minutes. With both methods , remember to place the legs in the pot 'open end' first. Some people like to flavour the crab while cooking by squeezing the juice of a few lemons in , and adding a clove or two of garlic , however i prefer adding flavour at the end after they are cooked with some seasoning and some melted butter.
Baking the crab legs instead of boiling them will result in a sweeter taste and less soggy meat. Simply place the crab legs on a baking tray in a pre-heated oven (425 f) and leave for 10 mins per pound (14 mins from frozen).
